The Local – Gluten Free Dining
The Local in Wayland, Massachusetts is part of a local restaurant chain, and is one of five restaurants bearing the same name. The intent seems to be to provide an upscale eatery for local gatherings. Picture folks meeting after work for a drink or friends meeting together for lunch on the weekend.
“Locavore bistro boasting international small plates, cocktails & brunch in crisp, clubby surrounds.”
The Local offers a Gluten free menu that covers most of their regular items. Online, the menu clearly notes gluten free items. Our waitress was knowledge about gluten free items and prep, and also did not hesitate to double checked with kitchen. They do use a separate frier for their potato chips and brussel sprouts appetizers.
I tried their house specialty of “Crispy Brussels” with tamari sauce ($9) as a starter. For lunch, I ordered their “Power Lunch” ($15) and added Chicken ($7). The salad came with baby spinach & kale, quinoa, feta cheese, yellow tomatoes, pistachios, shaved brussels, chopped avocado, citrus vinaigrette. Both the starter and the main entree were delicious.
The Manager brought out both portions of the meal and indicated each was gluten free as she presented it.
I enjoyed dining here, and I will definitely do so again when I am next in the area.
